Canon
As the only two children in the Ninth House, Harrow and Gideon grew up as childhood enemies, with Harrow (though smaller and weaker) as the usual aggressor. When they were seventeen and eighteen respectively, Harrow, a talented necromancer compelled Gideon to serve as her cavalier in a challenge to become a Lyctor. As they pass through various trials and hardships of the challenges, they gradually become closer with one another, being forced to work together and unable to trust most of the other competitors. Eventually they forge an unbreakable bond.
Some fans consider Gideon and Harrow's relationship to be a prime example of the Enemies to Lovers trope, although some might consider it more accurately "Enemies to Grudging Allies to Allies to Friends to It's Complicated Don't Ask."
