I Intent to be Independently Blue is a popular Teen Wolf fan fic by Loz. It's a canon-compliant fluffy get-together fic for Derek/Stiles that fits the failwolf!Derek trope. It's also notable for its high number of pop culture references, particularly to Joss Whedon properties. It was published at the beginning of season 2 and is canon-compliant only to that point, though its use of a wendigo as a supernatural villain fits with their appearance in season 4.
Summary
Stiles is the worst thing that could have happened to Derek. He hasn't been wolfing out at inopportune moments since his teens, but only because he has a system in place. And this is where Stiles comes into play. Because he's been messing with this system, and doesn't even know. Also, there's a wendigo.

Oh, I love this. Your reasoning for why Derek is wolfing out around Stiles makes an incredible amount of sense, I can't believe this is the first time I've seen the idea presented. I love the many varied ways Stiles is a geek, and I love how you write his point of view. Both of their points of view, really, but Stiles's is particularly perfect. Seriously-- a Firefly AND an Avenger's reference? Um I'm pretty sure that guarantees you epic awesomeness in any story. Adding the Buffy references though was the cherry on top. ;)I loved the story. You did a great job of bringing all the characters together and keeping their various social relationships realistic and believable. The humor was brilliant as well, loved that Scott and Stiles poked and prodded at each other like best friends do but also that Derek had a sense of humor too. I liked the troubles that stemmed from Derek turning the other teens, I mean when you're that age everything it crazycakes so I'm glad that it wasn't all smooth sailing for them working together.
All and all I loved how there was a new creature to defeat, research to be discovered and the budding/bumpy relationship between Derek and Stiles to be had. Very well done, I had a blast. :) (Plus a Coulson reference!!!) --strifechaos's review.[3]
