The HP Femslash Holiday Exchange, or fem_exchange, was a holiday gift exchange for Harry Potter femslash. It ran for three rounds, from 2006 to 2008, though the final round never completed posting.
Rules
The HP Femslash Holiday Exchange was an anonymous fic and art exchange. Each participant created a work of fanfiction or fanart for another participant that they were assigned to, based on the preferences given by each party when they signed up, and each participant received a fanwork in exchange. All gifts were initially posted anonymously, and the creator of each gift was announced after all the gifts were posted. Participants were not permitted to reveal which gift they created or post the work elsewhere before the reveal.
The exchange required all submitted stories to be a minimum of 1,000 words and did not allow submissions to be parts of larger works (e.g. prequels or sequels) or part of a preexisting series or shared universe. Stories were also required to be beta-read.[1]
There were no content restrictions for submissions, and works of all ratings and femslash pairings were accepted. Several stories also featured background het and/or slash pairings.
2006 Exchange
The first HP Femslash Holiday Exchange was run by confiteor_3.
Thirty-one works were created for this round: 28 were fanfiction, two were fanart, and one was both. The most popular pairing in the fest was Hermione/Pansy with six works, followed by Pansy/Ginny with five. Hermione Granger was the most popular character, featured in twelve works, followed by Pansy Parkinson in eleven and Ginny Weasley in ten.

2007 Exchange
The second HP Femslash Holiday Exchange was run by el_em_en_oh_pee. Twenty-three works were created for this round, only one of which was fanart. Pairings were more widely distributed than in the previous round; the most popular, Ginny/Luna, was featured in only three works.
Due to "recent LJ drama," this exchange required participants to be of legal age and all content was posted to InsaneJournal, with headers and links posted to the LiveJournal community.[2] GreatestJournal was also used to host works until part-way through the posting, when the site became unreliable. Additionally, works from the 2006 round that were rated NC-17 or featured incest or cross-gen were retroactively locked to community members.[3]
Individuals who dropped out without notice from the previous year's exchange were not permitted to participate, whereas those who dropped out with notice could participate but had an earlier deadline than other participants.

2008 Exchange
The 2008 exchange was run by primarily by acidpop25, with assistance from el_em_en_oh_pee (who also intended to take over when acidpop25 was unable to continue posting).[4][5] This round never finished posting all the fanworks submitted for it, and the creators of the works were never announced, causing many of gifts to remain uncredited.
Of the 14 works posted, all but one were fanfiction. The most popular pairing was Ginny/Pansy with three works, and the most popular characters were Hermione and Ginny, featured in six works each.
