Gypsy Silverleaf is the first known Harry Potter fan writer and archivist.

Gypsy was originally known as GirlieHawke in Animorphs fandom, and chose Gypsy Raven as her Harry Potter pseud in 1999. In 2001, she shortened it to Gypsy, and in 2003 added "Silverleaf."[1]

From the author's fiction page a Harry Potter's Realm of Wizardry:

But really, I'm not here to boast. This section [at Harry Potter's Realm of Wizardy] is here because I love to write. I pen or type whenever inspiration hits, and because of that, I churn out strange things. The fics here range from a rating of kid-friendly (G) to one of adult-oriented only (meaning R). I deal with a variety of subjects, including love (lost and found), angst, horror, amusement, satire, abuse, sex, rape, incest, life, suicide, happiness, depression, and other such pleasantries. That said, the stories are obviously of controversial subjects and have been known to cause some disquiet. You are officially warned.

Reviews are very much welcomed and encouraged. [2]

Some Fiction Firsts

Harry Potter and the Man of Unknown was written between August-September 1999 and published September 4, 1999 at Fanfiction.net. [3]

Gypsy also lays claim to the first Severus Snape fiction, also published December 8, 1999. This story is The Love That Shattered a Man. The author stated in the author's notes that it was the second Harry Potter story they'd written.

Gypsy's story, Across Enemy Lines at Harry Potter's Realm of Wizardry, was also the first Draco/Hermione fic posted to the internet; the date of that was December 8, 1999.

Gypsy also prompted Xing Li, the owner of Fanfiction.net, to create the Harry Potter section at that site:

I write Harry Potter fan fiction. I'm actually one of the first writers ever, I got the administration over at FanFiction.net to start the Harry Potter fan fiction section, I wrote the first Severus Snape-oriented fic, and I started the Draco/Hermione ship. Scary, no? [4]

From a undated comment at Fanfiction.Net:

I was the first Harry Potter fan fic writer, with "Harry Potter and the Man of Unknown," and I got Xing to start this section. I wrote the first Severus Snape fiction and started the Draco/Hermione ship. I'm so proud of the fact that I'm seventeen and feel terribly old. :sticks out her tongue: Now I'm just kind of a loser. Ahem, anyway, I tend to read slash more often than not nowadays. Favourite pairings are Snape/Harry (Snarry), Draco/Harry, and Snape/Lupin. [5]

An Archive First

Gypsy also started the fansite Harry Potter's Realm of Wizardry in July 1999, which may have been the first Harry Potter archive and was an initial member of Defense Against the Dark Arts, a fan group partnered PotterWar, in 2001. [6]
