Scope
What is FanloreProject:Art History? The main goal of this project is to expand Fanlore's coverage of the somewhat neglected intersection between fandom and what is frequently known as fine art.
- Fandoms centered on historical artists such as Michaelangelo, Artemisia Gentileschi, and Vincent van Gogh. Did you know there are fanfics featuring Michelangelo on AO3? Some of these are based on fictionalized depictions in popular media and some are historical RPF.
- Fanart imitations of fine-art works (such as Klimt's The Kiss) and subjects (such as the Pietà).
- Art movements (such as Art Nouveau) that have influenced both canon and fan-created works.
But why stop there? Fandom has a rich and diverse artistic history of its own! This project also aims to grow Fanlore's general coverage of fanart, fan artists, art communities, and other art-related topics.
All project-related discussion should take place on-wiki to allow for universal accessibility and input from all art history fans.

Project Goals
- Create and expand articles on widely-imitated fine-art works: Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Fragonard's The Swing, etc.
- Create and expand articles on oft-imitated art styles: Art Deco, Art Nouveau, ukiyo-e, etc.
- Identify and expand coverage of fan-specific art styles such as the Dragon Age "tarot" art style.
- Integrate coverage of zine art more seamlessly throughout Fanlore. Many articles on tropes, characters, etc. highlight newer fanart, likely because it is easier to locate examples on sites like DeviantArt than it is in print zines. Can we find examples of vintage fanart to add to trope articles etc.?
