Fandom Loves Puerto Rico was a multifandom charity auction organized in response to the devastation of Hurricane Maria, with all proceeds going to the organization ConPRmetidos.[1] It was hosted on Dreamwidth.

Origins

Fandom Loves Puerto Rico was organized by Tumblr/AO3 user hansbekhart, with support from other fans.[2] Many of the organizers were involved in Captain America fandom.[3] The organizers cited previous fan-driven charity auctions (such as Fandom Trumps Hate, Sweet Charity, and FandomAid) as antecedents.

Auction

In a master post published on September 30, 2017, Fandom Loves Puerto Rico was launched with the following timeline:[4]

September 30, 2017: sign-ups begin

October 15, 2017: sign-ups close

October 17, 2017: bidding opens

October 23, 2017: bidding ends

November 6, 2017: proof of donation due from winning bidders

A wide range of fanworks were eligible for the auction, including: fanfic, fanart, fanvids, podfic, and beta services, and fannish tutorials. Material fancrafts were not officially eligible for the auction, but the organizers offered to signal boost these offerings, so long as the participants coordinated shipping details directly. Professional creators from New York Comic Con also donated items for the auction.[5]

Over three hundred creators signed up to offer fanworks and/or services in the auction.[6] Almost three hundred fandoms were represented in the offered auctions.[7] The main auction raised over $19,000 for ConPRmetidos.[8] An additional $675 in pledged donations was raised through two special art auctions of works created by artists from Puerto Rico.

Example Fanworks

On October 14, 2017, hansbekhart created a collection on Archive of Our Own for fulfilled fanworks from the Fandom Loves Puerto Rico auction.[9] As of March 13, 2018, there were 142 fanworks in the collection.
