The Contractverse (also called K-Verse) is a shared universe in the House, M.D. fandom. The Contractverse started with The Contract, a canon divergent fanfic by DIY Sheep. The Contract is an angst story centered on Greg House and featuring wrongful imprisonment, graphic violence, and sexual assault. Other fan writers contributed to the 'verse, which now totals, "over one million words."[1]

The Contract

The Contract was published by DIY Sheep on February 13, 2006, and finished on March 28, 2008 with a total of 41,099 words.[2] The Contract begins with Greg House showing up to work with an inordinate number of injuries, much to the bewilderment of his colleagues. From House's narration, the reader can tell that he signed a contract and is being punished for various infringements. When Wilson tries to confront House about his increasingly erratic behaviour, they have a public argument. House throws his cane at Wilson; Wilson retaliates by breaking House's cane in front of him. A week or so later, House is found in his apartment with Cameron's dead body - after apparently beating her to death with his cane. House pleads guilty and is imprisoned with a life sentence. He is placed in an experimental tough on crime prison that uses forced labour, corporeal punishment, and a combination of sensory deprivation and solitary confinement. During House's imprisonment, the reader finds out the source of the mysterious contract: Robert Thompson. Thompson is a wealthy man whose daughter went to House for treatment and died inspite of House's efforts. Thompson manipulated House into signing a contract by using a threat on Wilson's life as collateral. Four years later, Thompson dies and his plot is exposed. House is released from prison but is semi-catatonic. The remainder of The Contract details Wilson's eventually successful efforts to bring him out of his catatonia.

A Gentle Knock at the Door [5] archive by zeppomarxDate: Mar. 8th, 2008Genre: Gen, House & Wilson friendship
Author's summary:

A sequel to Priority's Exigencies, although because that story has continued since this one was incubated (many months ago), our paths diverge. Priority's sequel is, in itself, a sequel to DIY Sheep's quite creepy and violent The Contract, which has now spawned an incredible number of offshoots, this being one. If you haven't read the original stories, you may want to at some point, just to get the context for this. The short version is that House is a physical and emotional mess, having been wrongly imprisoned and tortured and all sorts of nasty stuff. This is set nearly a year after the beginning of Exigencies, and it's about what happens next, and how House deals with it.
