"ROTJ, that three major events of "historical" significance have occurred in the recent past (approximately the last generation) of the STAR WARS characters' experience. These events are the Clone Wars, the "fall of the Jedi", and the collapse of the Old Republic. The three events had common roots; and the forces that brought them about continue to operate during the "present" which the movies portray."
