Cid is a supporting character in the Square Enix video game Final Fantasy VIII.
Canon
Cid Kramer is the headmaster of Balamb Garden. He and his wife Edea founded SeeD and Garden after a warning they received from Squall when he traveled back in time during time compression. Prior to founding SeeD, Cid and Edea ran an orphanage in Centra, where Squall, Seifer, Zell, Quistis, Irvine, and Selphie were all raised.
During the main canon, Cid does not share any of this information with Squall or the other characters, who have forgotten it due to memory loss from junctioning GFs. Instead he appears to be a bumbling headmaster who is not trusted by the staff or the other heads of Garden. He makes repeated references to the true purpose of SeeD, but does not express what that purpose is. When war with the Sorceress begins, Cid appoints Squall as commander of SeeD without any consultation or advance notice.
