Irvine is a main character in the Square Enix video game Final Fantasy VIII.

Canon

A sharpshooter with an obtuse personality and his sights on pretty girls, Irvine was originally hired to assist SeeD with the assassination of Sorceress Edea by sniper rifle.

His flaky personality shone through almost instantly when his assassination attempt failed. It wasn't because of his aim - the bullet was on target - however the omniscient sorceress stopped it with a barrier in the nick of time. Irvine's already frail confidence was shattered, having let everyone down.

He managed to redeem himself by rescuing Squall and the gang from prison, albeit at Rinoa's behest.

Irvine unofficially inducted himself into SeeD not long afterwards, but never succeeded in making much of an impact on the team. He generally just agreed to whatever Selphie wanted.

As a womaniser, Irvine will happily be shipped with just about any woman that will have him. He is closest with Selphie however, so she is generally the most common ship. Irvine/Rinoa and Irvine/Quistis both exist, however less prevalently than Irvine/Selphie.

Slash ships with Irvine are rare due to his womanising nature, however they are entirely feasible.
