This category is already huge and it's still far from complete. I think subcategories would be a good idea and based on the Multimedia (Multiple Fandoms)/Fanzines list I suggest:
- Category:Multimedia Gen and Het Zines
- Category:Multimedia Slash Zines
- Category:Multimedia Non-fiction Zines
The listed femslash and fanart zines would be just Category:Multimedia Zines. Opinions? --Doro 12:41, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- I like this idea. I have another question: can these multimedia zines get a category for the individual fandoms within them? While it would be helpful for someone looking for say, A-Team or Star Wars fiction, my worry is some of these zines would get too many categories. Is "too many categories" a problem? --Mrs. Potato Head 12:46, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think it depends. Usually I woudn't add a fandom category for every fandom represented in a multimedia zine because that would mean a LOT of fandoms and we wouldn't do that for a multifandom archive either (Also, these zines are usually listed on the fandom page of that fandom or the fandom zine list). If it's just three or four fandoms, maybe (but then I probably wouldn't add the multimedia zines category). If it's predominantly one fandom with several other fandoms in-between, I would probably add that one fandom (in addition to multimedia zines) but not the others. However, the way I've been using the categories so far a multifandom zine cover that predominantly depicts characters from one or two fandoms would get a fandom cat in addition to the multimedia zine cat. Does this make sense? --Doro 14:11, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think so. My general rule of thumb as I've cataloged them is that if the zine covers two fandoms only, I note them both in the template. If it's three, I call it multimedia. I know there's a little bleed-over with this "rule" of mine, but it is pretty consistent. --Mrs. Potato Head 14:32, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
Rename Category to "Multifandom Zines"?
In relation to the discussion about renaming "Category: Multimedia", I propose renaming this category to "Multifandom Zines", for similar disambiguation reasons. -- Quaelegit (talk) 00:47, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- I believe this category is specifically for multifandom media fanzines. I'm on the fence about whether it should be renamed to be clearer; I think the zines were called multimedia zines, so renaming to follow a standard is not portraying the fandom as it saw itself. There are other instances where a non-standard naming convention used within the fan community was used on Fanlore, although those were mostly about naming ship pages, rather than categories.--aethel (talk) 23:55, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- On second thought, the note on the category (which I apparently wrote) just says it's for multifandom zines, so if that is the desired scope of the category, it definitely should be renamed to avoid confusion. The subcategories are potentially a problem though--combining gen and het in one category I believe is due to the fact that historically only slash zines were marked as such, and het zines were unmarked.--aethel (talk) 14:32, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
