Name?
I'm wondering why this category is called "Category:Assassin's Creed Fanart Images"? This isn't consistent with how we have organized other art categories, if you look at Category:Visual Art you'll see all the other fandoms are called "ASOIAF/Game of Thrones Art" or "Star Trek Art" etc, and I think that works better, because sometimes you might write an article about a famous piece of fanart in a fandom, and that could go in the sub-category as well, see Category:The Avengers Art for example, but by tacking on "Images" it takes away that option -- Kingstoken (talk) 09:43, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- The word Images is tacked on because it is supposed to be a category for files, not for articles. I would argue that the tactic of diffusion (i.e. sorting pages into smaller subcategories) needs to be applied to files as well, as it still leads to the same kind of issues: namely, an overly large category resulting in certain topics being hard to find or discern for users that are not familiar with a fandom or what the image is. - Most categories I've seen are not restricted to pages or to files only. The only examples I can think of are things like "Creative Commons files", which serve a particular purpose. There's no reason to restrict a fanart category to files only. All the other fanart categories can include pages if someone made a page about a particular piece of fanart that fits the category. This category should be renamed to Category:Assassin's Creed Art.--aethel (talk) 22:31, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- Addressing the "diffusion" issue: the only reason that images might appear in a too-broad category when they really belong in the subcategory is that when the image was uploaded, either the subcategory didn't exist or the uploader didn't know it was there and no one thought to check the files to move them into the subcategory. (The other issue is that there are multiple ways of thinking about what category applies to an image file: it is fanart, but its contents are about some character, fandom, or theme. It might also be created for a zine, convention, website, etc. and potentially be relevant for the corresponding category.)--aethel (talk) 22:42, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- Fair enough, fine with a rename. I think my concerns with diffusion more like with zine categories, which tend to ballon out of control with lots of scans. However, that's a separate issue entirely. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 22:55, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
