Carter Hall is a DC Comics character known as Hawkman.
Canon
Comics
Carter Hall is an archaeologist and museum curator who is also the reincarnation of the ancient Egyptian prince Khufu. His reincarnation gave him the powers needed to become the winged vigilante Hawkman.
Smallville
Carter Hall was the original leader of the Justice Society of America. He came out of retirement to take down a vengeful Icicle with help from the Justice League. He returned again to help Clark Kent and the Justice League defeat Zod and his army.[1]
Arrowverse
Carter Hall was a reincarnation of the Egyptian prince Khufu and the vigilante Hawkman. After his death, he was reincarnated into Scythian Torvil who went on to take the name of his previous life. Carter's death was avenged when the Legends finally killed Savage.[2]

Arrowverse
Thanks to their comicverse canon background and star-crossed lovers/soulmates history, Carter/Kendra already had a following before appearing of Legends of Tomorrow.
Some fans of Carter were unhappy with his role in Legends as he was killed off within the second episode.[3]
