Beforeigners is a Norwegian mystery and police procedural television series about time travel. The title is a portmanteau word; it is a combination of the terms before and foreigners.
The protagonists are Alfhildr Enginnsdóttir, a time-travelling former Viking shield-maiden in the service of Tore Hund and multi-temporal police recruit who faked her CV in order to be able to join the force, and Lars Haaland, a by-the-book Oslo police senior detective. The dynamics between the pair might be seen as a buddy cop relationship.
Fandom
Beforeigners is a small fandom. When the show was removed from HBO Max catalogue, reddit user cheapcakeripper started a petition on Change.org to bring the series back.[1]
Crossovers
Although Beforeigners is currently a small fandom, there are a few crossovers with characters from the TV show Vikings and Norse mythology as they are portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel comics.

Quotations
Has anyone stopped to think what it means that people from the past are being sent to the present in Fremvandrerne for languages?Imagine all those languages that are dying for lack of speakers or the dwindling population of native speakers. Now imagine a lot of the original speakers suddenly start popping up in the present.
The languages would be revived! Documents in forgotten tongues could finally be understood! Modern languages could be studied under a new light, according to how they relate to languages from the past!
Man, this show is awesome. I love it. My queer little language nerd heart is living for Fremvandrerne, Beforeigners or however you call it.

Yesterday I finished watching "Beforeigners". I can really recommend it!For me there where three familiar faces in the cast: Ylva Bjørkaas Thedin as Ingrid who plays Isolde in Ragnarok, Odd-Magnus Williamson as Jeppe who plays Erik in Ragnarok and Eili Harboe as Ada who plays Thelma in Thelma.
The series is about people from the past suddenly appearing in the present. The story follows police officers Lars Haaland and Alfhildr Enginsdottir from the Viking-era who is the first police officer with multi-temporal background solving the case of a murdered woman with Stone-Age tattoos.
Oh, I am looking forward to Beforeigners season 2.Everybody else in the trailer: “Jack the Ripper is in modern day Oslo?! Oh noes!”
Alfhildr my darling shieldmaiden: “I don’t want to sound like an idiot, but who the hell is Check Dripper?!”
Just watched the trailer for Beforeigners season 2.Jack the Ripper!!!
Also, apparently there are no goats allowed on public transport in 21st century Oslo. Booo!
I wonder about the repercussions on the modern Norwegian royals (who are descendants from the Danish royal family that got chosen back when Norway became independent) from having a really old Norwegian king, who is apparently the eternal king? - suddenly walking around. Who is king? (For that matter, what are the international repercussions of a Catholic saint suddenly walking around?)
Feel like with the premise of "People from different eras of history start to appear in modern time", you could do a lot more interesting stuff than the most cliche cop story. The main character is a cop with a divorce daughter, and a secret drug problem, seriously?? Did you have to quickly paste it together so the series would be bought?
I'm very into the beforeigners right now , not only because the main character is apparently the only Norwegian actor ( i saw him in Acquitted and some horrid Ragnarok movie) , but for the fun premise ( time travellers as refugees ) and the loveliness of seeing vikings interacting with a modern world. Nordic crime series with vikings galore , very recommended and lovely ridiculous at timesforestal-ramblings on tumblr (December 24, 2021), Archived version
The writers for beforeigners were like "is anyone going to create something with a silly premise that is actually packed with harsh and relevant social commentary on addiction, identity, immigration, racism, prejudice, and human rights in general?" and didn't wait for an answerofficial-rolli-and-rita on tumblr (October 9, 2022), Archived version
