Batgirl is a superhero secret identity filled by several characters at different points in DC Comics canon. Batgirl is best known as one of Batman's proteges.
Incarnations
Bat-Girl I: Betty Kane
Batgirl II: Barbara Gordon
Batgirl III: Cassandra Cain
Batgirl IV: Stephanie Brown
Claimants
Two others went by the name of "Batgirl" before being dissuaded (Charlotte "Charlie" Gage-Radcliffe went on to be Misfit) or in Helena Bertinelli's case stripped of the mantle due after violating Batman's code against extreme violence (she returned to her The Huntress mantel).
In Other Adaptions
Batgirl, at least a version of her (usually of Barbara Gordon), has been seen in various adaptions of the Batman and DC Comics series.
- Batman & Robin film has "Barbara Wilson", a niece of Alfred Pennyworth instead of Commissioner Gordon's daughter.
- Barbara Gordon appears in Young Justice, although not in costume: Bette Kane makes her first animated debut on the series.
Fandom
Shipping current/former Batgirl appears, although they are more commonly shipped with a Robin. Though none of the characters are related by blood, they are often considered part of the Batfamily. They also often shipped with a Supergirl.
