Fandom
Adult Swim regularly ranks No. 1 in cable viewers 12-14, adults 18-34, and males 12-14.[1] The block has garnered somewhat of a cult following due to its surreal programming and laid-back attitude.
Adult Swim is recognized in the anime community for exposing adult-oriented anime to western audiences, as it is one of the only cable networks in the United States to broadcast such. The block has also gained a reputation for reviving cancelled series, most notably Family Guy and Futurama.
As part of the block's annual April Fool's Day stunt, Adult Swim revived the popular action-oriented Cartoon Network programming block Toonami. The following day, Adult Swim posted a message to their Twitter page, stating "Want it back? Let us know. #BringBackToonami. On April 4, Adult Swim released a follow up tweet stating "#BringBackToonami We've heard you. Thank you for your passion and interest - stay tuned." Due to an extensive fan campaign, Adult Swim later confirmed via Facebook that Toonami would return on May 26.
Adult Swim is instantly recognized for its unique bumpers, or short clips that play before programs. These often consist of humorous black-and-white text non-sequiturs, or time-lapsed stock footage featuring the Adult Swim logo. In May of 2021 a trend appeared on TikTok where users attempt to mimic Adult Swim's bumpers.[2]
