AO3 Ship Stats: Year in Bad Data is post by 5ummit about the AO3 Ship Stats posted by centreoftheselights each year, posted after the 2023 statistics were published. The post criticised the methods used to gather the ship statistics and how they were presented, which resulted in misleading fans on how accurate the statistics were.
centreoftheselights responded directly to the criticism, with their perspective and reasons for gathering and presenting the data the way they did. Many other fans also left commentary, either on the post, via asks to either 5ummit or centreoftheselights, or on the AO3 Ship Stats work directly.
Since the original post, 5ummit has also posted follow up commentary and meta on the fandom stats series, including on the AO3 Ship Stats 2024.

Follow-up commentary and meta
In a follow-up to their 2024 criticism, 5ummit posted about the lasted addition to the series in January 2025. In this post, they referenced another source of pairing statistics, Randomist1031's work 'Ao3 Most Written Pairings. They advised fans of fandom statistics to reference those lists instead and this may have directly led to the notable increase in engagement with Randomist1031's January 2025 post.
