Ao3 Most Written Pairings is a project by Randomist1031 that tracks the number of public and restricted works written for pairings on AO3. It was started in 2023.
About the series
Randomist1031 was inspired to gather and present the statistics when they became curious about the impact of the number of locked fics on the numbers of various pairings in centreoftheselights' AO3 Ship Stats series.
First of all, I would like to thank centreoftheselights for inspiring and allowing me to reference their data to do a list of my own that includes data for locked fics.With the recent big advocate for writers to lock their fics in order to protect their work from AI scraping and bot comments, I'm intrigued to record the effects of such movement given there aren't much information about locked fics in general.
I have included an extra of 31 ships that are either close to the Top 100 or a popular ship on other platforms to the list.

The statistics for Randomist1031's works are currently gathered manually without the use of programs or automation. In addition to the main list, some additional analysis, commentary, or extra pairings that might be of interest (because they were close to the top 100 or have fallen out of the top 100) are sometimes added to the posts.
In their January 2025 addition to the series, Randomist1031's work received notably more interaction than the previous publications. This may have been due to being linked directly as an alternative to the AO3 Ship Stats in a post made by fan, 5ummit. 5ummit mentioned the work in a follow-up post to their earlier criticism of the AO3 Ship Stats series in AO3 Ship Stats: Year in Bad Data.
