Assassin's Creed III (ACIII or AC3 for short) is a 2012 action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal. It is the fifth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and a direct sequel to 2011's Assassin's Creed: Revelations. The game was released worldwide for PS3 and Xbox 360, beginning in North America on October 30 2012, with a Wii U and Microsoft Windows release following in November. A remastered version was released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One in March 2019, bundled with Assassin's Creed: Liberation.[1]

The plot is set in a fictional history of real world events and follows the centuries-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace through free will, and the Templar Order, who desire peace through control. The modern-day plot story is set in the late months of 2012 and features protagonist Desmond Miles who, with the aid of fellow Assassins Rebecca Crane, Shaun Hastings, and his father William Miles, is trying to avert the 2012 apocalypse. To do so, Desmond relives genetic memories from his 18th-century ancestors in the years before, during and after the American Revolution. The two ancestral protagonists of AC3 are Haytham Kenway and Ratonhnhaké:ton (nicknamed "Connor").

Fandom

Due to Desmond's team visiting Manhattan for one of the missions, Protocreed fans commonly like to imagine that he encountered Alex Mercer during this time.[2]

Fans who were dissatisfied with Desmond's death at the finale of AC3 have created many fanworks with alternate endings. One commonly-seen version is that Desmond survived but with major burns/scarring on his right arm, or else had the arm amputated. Another common view is that Desmond's body died but his consciousness could have been preserved digitally; this was later implied to be canon by a line of dialogue in Assassin's Creed: Syndicate where Juno states that Clay and Desmond are with her "in the Gray".

During an argument, William Miles hits Desmond, and this has led to some fans incorporating a history of child abuse into Desmond's backstory.
