¿Por qué nos gusta el BL? 🔍 Una mirada hispanoamericana (in English "Why do we like BL? 🔍 A Hispanic American insight") is the name of a meta video by Liliana Rocha created for BL day in 2021 as part of the event BLDayLatam. The video presents the data of a market research made by the author, whose sample consists on BL Spanish-speaking consumers. It is based on a previous study in English. One of the goals of the poll was to find out if the results of the Spanish-speaking sample matched the one made in English.

More than 1300 persons answered the poll, from which 1150 were used.

As a straight man, I can say that BL, GL and LGBT stories in general tend to better represent the universal feeling of vulnerability and risk involved in falling in love, not as something that occurs naturally, that depersonalization of ceasing to be a whole to become part of something, is something that everyone who has ever fallen in love can relate to, no matter their orientation. That's the feeling that LGBT stories explore in much greater depth and why, I think, we can all love it if we give it the chance.

One of the reasons I feel most straight women consume BL is because of the limited view of eroticism in the most popular straight romance stories. In general, the erotic stories featuring a boy and a girl have a more masculine perspective, for example, when they take shots in a movie, the sexual approach is more focused on women, so the one who enjoys that scene the most will be a man, while in a BL the focus and erotic role will be the man in one way or the other. As a woman I know that the way of consuming this type of stories is different from men, therefore it is more common that instead of consuming porn we mostly consume fanfics, erotic books and yaoi manga.
