Yue Qingyuan 岳清源 is a supporting character in the danmei novel The Scum Villain's Self Saving System.

He is one of the Peak Lords of the Twelve Peaks, ruling over Qiong Ding Peak. He is also the Sect Leader of the entire Cang Qiong Sect.

Canon

Yue Qingyuan has a long and complicated relationship with Shen Jiu, the original Shen Qingqiu. This affects his treatment of the transmigrated Shen Yuan. Until the relevations later in the book, we can only assume at this history.

Yue Qingyuan and Shen Jiu were both child slaves. When fleeing from this, Yue Qingyuan had to leave and injured Shen Jiu behind. He then joined Cang Qiong Sect: however, he overdid his cultivation and as imprisoned in the Lingxi Caves to heal. Here, his soul is bonded to his sword, Xuan Shu. Every time he draws his sword, he drains his own soul.

By the time he got out and returned for Shen Jiu, the latter was gone. They met again later, when Yue Qingyuan helped Shen Jiu become a cultivator at Cang Qiong. Over time, they both became Peak Lords. Yue Qingyuan overcompensated for his guilt over not getting there in time to save Shen Jiu, but did not tell him the truth, while Shen Jiu treated him coldly for abandoning him.

Yue Qingyuan is the one that sits by Shen Jiu's bedside when he dies, and the first one the newly transmigrated Shen Yuan meets. During the story, he keeps supporting and defending Shen Qingqiu. With the original story of Proud Immortal Demon Way changed, he escapes his fate of being ambushed by Luo Binghe, and dying with his sword shattered.
