Winter Companions, aka wintercompanion, is a challenge community on LiveJournal for “all things Doctor/Jack - fic, art, vids or anything else pairing the Doctor - any incarnation of the Doctor - and Captain Jack Harkness.” The community was created to host the Ten/Jack fest in 2007 and was turned into a monthly challenge community after the end of the fest. The community allows for all variations of the Doctor/Jack pairing and maintains a Collection on the AO3.

The community was modelled after Stargate Atlantis Flashfiction and DS Flashfiction.

In 2010 they held another Doctor/Jack fest and in 2011 a Doctor/Jack Bingo fest.

In 2012, coinciding with the month of meta (also modded by trobadora), March was used for episode discussion.

Inspired by the Meta Month of March fest happening over at month_of_meta, we've decided that March is going to be the month of meta and discussion here as well. Normally this comm is reserved for fanfic only, but this month the comm is open to meta/discussion posts of all kinds.

In January 2013, after the comm had grown increasingly silent, the mods polled the users to let people decide in which form the comm should change in the future.

In March 2013 the comm announced a Winter Companions Doctor/Jack Gift Exchange, an anonymous fanwork exchange for fic, art and vids of all ratings and genres. Posting started in April.
