Recs and Reviews

A quiet little story, this one has stuck with me through the years. I love a good first-time story anyway, but this one is structured so well, and has such a muted level of need running through it. It features Oblivious!Qui-Gon done really well, and the Jedi are portrayed as I like them, mature and wise and dispassionate, yet with a core of love in their hearts. And Qui-Gon's definition of love, which he tells to Obi-Wan, while not mentioning, of course, that Obi-Wan is the inspiration for it ... absolutely perfect: "It's...when you'll die for someone, but you're happier to live for them, to make them happy. When their happiness, their well-being, means more to you than your own. When you find yourself changing to fit them, but your changing is growth, not abandoning parts of yourself--and you can help them grow, as well. When...when you don't have to say anything. Love lives in the silences." BTW, I also highly recommend "Noise" by this same author.[1]

As Obi-Wan keeps rebuffing all kinds of attractive Padawans, Qui-Gon wonders who it is that his Padawan has given his heart to. A lovely unwinding story of gentle love.[2]

Mild Angst, happy ending - a perfect fic-me-up.[3]

Is Obi-Wan really as oblivious of his appeal as he seems? Another obtuse-Qui-Gon story, but again it's one with a sweetness to it that grabbed me. A bit of fluff to offset the doom-and-gloom that permeates the fandom. [4]

In some ways, this is a very similar story as Apprentice to Journeyman, from Qui-gon's POV instead of Obi-wan's, and in a much shorter form. Shorter, but not superficial, Who Will Not See by Ladonna King combines touching sadness with lovely prose.[5]

A quiet fic about the silent love that sometimes surrounds us. (And, err, the many ways that Qui-Gon can sometimes miss the obvious. *hearts clueless Qui-Gon*) It's both beautiful and elegant.[6]

who will not see, by ladonna king. qui/obi. nc-17. when blindness fades in time. awwwwwwwww.[7]

[...] And while you're on Ladonna's page, take a look at Who Will Not See. Just a lovely way to spend some time.[8]

Who Will Not See by Ladonna King-I have recommended Ladonna before and no doubt will again. This is a lovely and very peaceful TPM piece that examines the nature of love that demands nothing save its right to exist. You won't be disappointed by the story, but you may be disappointed that you might never know such a love -- or miss it by accident. 1/22/2000[9]

Flushing Beans if more TPM fanfic was like this I would never leave this fandom. Cool streams that what I thought of as I read this. Cool flowing stream of clear blue water washing over and throw you. This Qui voice is breathtakingly familiar it feel true. Joy untold amount of joy I felt while reading this fic. So rear a find that is. What I love most about this fic Was Qui understanding of love.

It's...when you'll die for someone, but you're happier to live for them, to make them happy. When their happiness, their well-being, means more to you than your own. When you find yourself changing to fit them, but your changing is growth, not abandoning parts of yourself--and you can help them grow, as well. When...when you don't have to say anything. Love lives in the silences,"

That is the most truthful definition I have read in a long time. I am a romantic at heart even though fandom has beat a lot of it out of me but I love the idea that Obi know himself and hold true to himself even thought he know love may never be returned.[10]
