WARRIOR'S BARGAIN by DVS (devious?) is another tightly-written piece of fiction set in a warrior culture. Normally, I don't care for a/u stories, but this one was compelling and tantalizing from start to finish. My only complaint is that I wanted more!

An interesting little AU story that draws me back to it for re-reading. S’Kirk, who is a traveling metalsmith currently in a camp of warrior nomads, offers the just-met Spock a fabulously made sword for the “bed price.” Spock can’t quite figure out why the unknown artisan, who seems more than an artisan, would want to spend the night with him in return for the goods, but he is attracted against his will and agrees to the bargain. There’s really not much more to this story (except their love making!) except for a neat ending, where S’Kirk says, “I am a Federani prince, but I do not sit in soft places, and I do not allow others to concern themselves with defense of our borders while I sit back and feast. I will be with warriors!” Yeah. That sounds like the JTK I know.
