Tower of Ecthelion is an online archive dedicated to fanfiction based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. The site accepts "quality stories of any length and genre, but the archive focus is the nation of Gondor and the people who love and defend it." The site design was credited to Margaret and Erin Theis. It was associated with the Tower of Ecthelion mailing list on YahooGroups. The site is linked to from the General Fanfiction Archives link section of the Eternal archive.
Rules for submitting fanfiction[3]:
This site will not post any fanfiction with a rating over R. Do not bother sending anything with an NC-17 rating. It will be deleted.
This site will not post any fanfiction that has not been properly proofread. All fanfiction here is of a certain quality. We are not here to correct spelling and grammar mistakes.
Each submission must in some part pertain to the Kingdom of Gondor. This does not mean we won’t accept fanfiction based upon Legolas or Gimli or that we will only accept stories pertaining to Faramir and Boromir. What this does mean is that each story must contain at least one person from the Gondor culture, and that character must play a significant role in the story.
Each submission must in some part pertain to the Lord of the Rings canon. As well as not accepting stories that do not pertain to Tolkien’s work in any way, this also means that we will not accept works that are so far gone from the universe as to be barely recognizable.
We will accept slash stories and other stories which contain sexual situations, provided that the said situations are presented in a tasteful manner.
We accept completed works as well as works in progress. Works which have not been updated for extreme amounts of time may be removed at our discretion.
We would prefer it if all submissions be sent to us with a .txt or a .doc extension. If this is not possible, please e-mail us and we will try to work out any problems. All stories will be formatted to match the website with no exception. Any title graphics may be submitted with the fanfiction to which it pertains, but keep in mind that we will size graphics to suit our formatting needs.
You must submit your pen name and the title of your work with your submission.
By the last Wayback capture in November 2003, the homepage stated that 38 authors had work archived on the site.[1]
