Reactions and Reviews

Wow. I'm amazed. This tightly-written story had it all: excellent characterizations, logical plot, a steady build-up to a surprising, satisfying climax, and a strong sense of atmosphere. Intense and poignant. I loved it. And the writing was so smooth that I never paused until it was over. Great job. [1]

A charming romance in uncharming surroundings. This story has a theme that's important to K/S. Kirk accepting Spock's strength as part of what makes him successful, yet hating too because Kirk wants to believe he is an island all to himself. This has, and rightfully so, inspired many K/S stories. But it was exceptionally nicely done here. [2]

Mirror Kirk and Spock are in the Emperor's disfavor; they are in a penal colony because of mainline Kirk not destroying Halka. They are joined in the cell by a hulking, bearded Romulan and the small Terran he fucks all the time. The Romulan has the hots for Kirk of course. Really wonderful Mirror dynamics; especially I loved the very smooth move by Spock to deflect the Romulan's attentions from Kirk.A wonderfully apt premise, how Mirror Spock has not ever overtly saved Kirk; rather, he has always maneuvered the situations so Kirk always wins. But here, Spock might have to defend him outright, and he likes the idea. Kirk feels very ineffectual in the face of the Romulan, a feeling he is, of course, not accustomed to. Spock wants Kirk to ask him, however, to stand shield to him. But Kirk will not let himself be vulnerable, even to Spock.
Faced with sex with the Romulan, Kirk imagines warrior sex with Spock. The Romulan finds out about Spock's maneuverings to protect his captain, and tells Kirk. Kirk realizes now that he's always had "more than himself" but didn't know it.
An absolutely beautiful scene, when each states what he wants of the other. Strong, heroic, warrior vows. Really stunning. Spock wishes to be freely allowed to champion Kirk. Kirk wants this, and also needs to know he is not forfeiting his own strength. Spock words are so perfect. Beautiful poetic sex; gorgeous finding of love.
Another excellent story by this author; I am always satisfied by her stories. [3]
