Thomas Hamilton is a fictional character in Starz's TV series Black Sails, played by Rupert Penry-Jones.

Canon

The spectre of Thomas Hamilton is introduced, when Richard Guthrie discovers a portrait of Lord and Lady Hamilton in Mrs. Barlow's house on Nassau Island.

In flashbacks, we learn that Thomas Hamilton, was a forward thinking politician who believed the only way to save Nassau was to offer the pirates pardons. He was married to Lady Miranda Hamilton, and both he and Miranda were in a relationship with Royal Navy Lieutenant James McGraw. He seemed unconcerned about the dangers their unconventional relationship posed in 18th Century London.

Thomas was imprisoned after their relationship came to light. Peter Ashe informed his lovers that Thomas later died. Miranda and James flee to Nasssau, with James McGraw becoming the fearsome Captain Flint.

Fanon

Thomas is most commonly paired with Captain Flint. Captain Flint/Thomas Hamilton fics cover a wide range of tropes and settings. They can be Domestic Fluff or Angst fics. They can be set in Pre-canon or Post canon. Modern AU fics are also popular.

The threesome pairing of Miranda Barlow/Captain Flint/Thomas Hamilton is common, and their relationship is canon in the show. The non canon pairing of Captain Flint/Thomas Hamilton/John Silver also appears in fanworks.
