Recs and Reviews

"JTM is a longish story in three parts that deals with a series of murders, the victims of which are all friends of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-Wan is fingered as a suspect in the crimes and he and Qui-Gon have to deal with the stress this puts on their relationship, as Obi-Wan knows more about the killings than he's telling."[1]

"The Obi-Wan Torture Oasis/TOTO - gorgeous site, with lots of stories about, well, a tortured Obi-Wan. Beware, there are some BDSM elements. Read "The Jedi Temple Murders" story. Great mystery; beautifully rendered artwork."[2]

"I'm a sucker for mysteries. Even before I started reading fantasy and horror novels, I've been a fan for mysteries. What better way to enjoy myself than to read something that's both angsty slash *and* a mystery? Not to mention it's got an intriguing plot (with a good twist near the ending that leaves me gaping) and such creative use of original/supporting characters (that actually know their places in fics)."[3]

T.O.T.O.

For quite a while analise was one of my favourite TPM authors. In fact it was her story A Matter of Control (previously rec'd by ausmac) that firmly entrenched me in the TPM slash fandom. [...] She (well, *they* really) likes to write long, long stories with plot, angst and hot sex. The Jedi Temple Murders is no exception: plot twists, secrets, believable OC's, hidden longings and intrigue abound, and woven through it all is a first time story delicately told. (As an aside, analise has also teamed with kirbycrow on the story Silent Faction. Another long, intrigue-filled epic.) [...]

The best thing I love about this story is that, like any good mystery, not everything is revealed at once, but clues are everywhere. The end of the first section has the first one:

Now I only had to be alert and very careful, for the Jedi are swift at sniffing out patterns and intent.
I should know.

Immediately we are given the hint that the murderer is very familiar with the Jedi and their methods of investigation. Of course, as all good mysteries should, this clue is brought to a couple of red herrings first before everything is revealed at the end.

Next we are given the first hint of another mystery: that of what happened during a training exercise on a planet called Kitthurin. Sandor's body has just been found and Obi-Wan recognises him by a marking on his wrist.

"It's a tattoo." he said quietly. "We all got them...on Kithurrin together. Bacco too." His chin jerked slightly in the direction his friend had taken the children. "At Training Temple, when we won." he explained to his Master's inquiring look. "Bacco, Geen, me, Elspeth...and Sandor." He swallowed again, looking at the hand, clearly male, disqualifying Elspeth.
And they all knew what had happened to Geen.

At that point I wanted to scream, "No, I don't know what happened! Tell me, you h0rs!" Had to wait until part two to find out. *pout* LOL

I'd love to talk more about the two mysteries and how they relate to each other, but that would end up being far too spoilery. Instead I'll just tell you to go read this incredible story which also has lots of hot Jedi sex. C'mon, you know you want to![4]

A little action, a pinch of secrets, a bucketful of hidden desires, threats of the dark side...this could only be a recipe for the Jedi Academy Murders!. analise and Kirby Crow have a great time combining genres and their own writing styles. (Also recommended: their beautifully laid out and maintained archive: the Obi-Wan torture oasis.)[5]

This fic is just everything that's perfect about a relationship (and hot sex) between Obi Wan and Qui Gon. Obi Wan is clever and amazing, but just a little vulnerable and completely in love with Qui Gon. Qui Gon is strong and protective, attempting to hide his love for his apprentice, but be supportive all the while. Then they reveal their love for each other and everything is so perfect. This one's done with a bit of a twist though - a rather creepy mystery in the form of a murder at the Jedi temple.[6]

qui-gon/obi-wan, obi-wan/omc, alternating pov, drama, first pov, non con, pre-tpm~ first and foremost, i adore the t.o.t.o site because not only do they have wonderful stories (and blatant angst) but artwork as well. lovely illustrations decorate this story as you read. always a plus. okay, i'll admit it took me forever, forever, to give this story a chance simply because of the amount of original characters. every time i read this story i'm astonded at the depth and detail of the plot. obi-wan is the main suspect for murder, but if he's indeed innocent-- then that makes him a victim.[7]

Long Stories: The Jedi Temple Murders by analise & Kirby Crow. I think what captured me in this story most was the imagery of the butterflies. I love butterflies and seeing them featured so prominently in a Qui/Obi story was almost more than I could take. Also, the mystery was excellent, drawing me into itself, trying to think, 'who could it be?' And the characters were envisioned with subtle skill-no stereotypes these! Last but not least, I could feel the beauty of their relationship-not to speak of the fact that making love in a garden is one of my favorite fantasies![8]

Someone is killing Jedi padawans. It is up to Qui-Gon Jinn to find the murderer before his own padawan becomes the next victim. Beautiful artwork by analise. (NC-17)[9]
