The Good Place is a fantasy comedy television series created by Michael Schur.

Overview

The series focuses on Eleanor Shellstrop, a woman who wakes up in the afterlife and is introduced by Michael to "The Good Place", a Heaven-like utopia he designed, in reward for her righteous life. She realizes that she was sent there by mistake, and must hide her morally imperfect behavior and tries to become a better person.

In "The Good Place", she is assigned a soulmate in Chidi Anagonye. Eleanor also develops a frenemy relationship with her socialite and philanthropist neighbour, Tahani Al-Jamil. Tahani's assigned soulmate is Jason Mendoza, a monk who has taken a vow of silence - or so it appears. Eleanor, Tahani, Chidi, and Jason develop an intense friendship and eventually take on the (affectionate name) Team Cockroach. Michael and Janet, the personal assistant of immense power, also develop friendships with the other main characters.

Fandom

Good Place Fusions with characters from other fandoms are quite popular.

The fandom is known for been particularly femslash friendly. Eleanor freely expresses her attraction to women in canon, and though she has not identified as bisexual in the show Kristen Bell has confirmed her as such. The first fic posted on Ao3 paired Eleanor/Janet.[1] For the duration of the first three series, fics pairing Eleanor/Chidi (Cheleanor) and Eleanor/Tahani (Teleanor) have been equally popular.

The Good Place's fic-writing fandom is still small and featured prominently in the Yuletide fic exchanges in 2017 and 2018. The Good Place has a fandom on tumblr that focuses less on fic and more on headcanons, meta, jokes, memes, GIFs, edits and fanart.
