Janet is one of the main characters in the NBC television series The Good Place.

Canon

Janet is the Good Janet assigned to Neighbourhood 12358W — despite it being in The Bad Place — to help sell the ruse that it's in The Good Place. She is one member of a class of interdimensional beings, all named Janet, that are tasked with assisting Architects and residents alike in the various afterlives: Good Janets, Bad Janets, Neutral Janets, and limited edition Disco Janet. All Janets contain encyclopedic knowledge of virtually everything in the universe, but this Janet has been to Earth, been rebooted frequently, and fallen in love, making her very different from the other Janets. Janet is married to Jason Mendoza, because "there is nothing in my protocol specifically barring that from happening", and they are a loving, unorthodox couple that occasions many of the opportunities for Janet to experience emotions for the first time. This Janet can be distinguished by her catchphrase, "not a girl", often taken to mean that she is non-binary. Janet works closely with Michael, the Neighbourhood's Architect and often partners with him to protect Team Cockroach.

Fandom

Janet is a well-loved character, but she is less frequently the subject of fanworks, instead usually appearing in a supporting role. Her and Jason often form a background pairing. When works do focus on her, they tend to address her otherworldly perspective on humanity.
