The Descent to Humanity is a Professionals slash elf Bodie/Doyle story by Anne Carr. The author wrote a sequel called Debts Repaid.
The Hatstand says it is the earliest "Doyle as an elf" stories written in Proslib and on the net.[1] The honor of being the very first elf story, however, belongs to El'Endu'il.
This story is on The 1985 Hatstand Express Top Ten Lists.

Wow, is the only thing I can say. Another fantasy story, and absolutely perfect. And very sad, the way stories about elves should be, but with hope at the end. Lovely.[2]
DESCENT TO HUMANITY--probably the very best elf story ever written. After reading the first EL'ENDU'IL I went berserk over the idea of Doyle-in-elf-ears and begged, pleaded and bribed all my friends to have a go at a story. (Probably would have anyhow but I like to feel important.) [3]
It's a fantasy. It's wonderful. I love it.[4]
"The Descent To Humanity" is just gorgeous for a portrait of love, true love, and its sacrifices. I love fantasy, but even more so when the characterisation is 100% accurate. And when it's written so well as this one, it deserves to be on a top 10 list.[5]

Before you write off ALL elf stories, I highly recommend one -- Descent to Humanity by Nancy Arena. She proves that a good writer can make any genre work. [6]

Why this must be read. Because everyone should read at least one Pros elf story, even if they think the whole idea a little odd, or worse.
Because this is the grandmother of all “Professionals” elf stories, written by an established Pros author, with a good grasp of both language and storytelling.
Because I generally hate elf stories, but I enjoyed this one. I liked the way it wove the AU aspects into canon. I liked the physical description of Doyle’s change from elf to human, and his interaction with Bodie. And the ending is simply lovely.[7]
As it happens, this is only elf story I've ever read so far and I liked it even having heard a lot about elf stories of Pros fandom in negative fashion on Yahoo list. But I love most of Anne Carr's stories anyway. ::g:[8]
