Some thoughts:
- the image field should not recommend poster or logo because we prefer to use fanart to illustrate fandom pages. Official images are discouraged on Fanlore.
- I think "see also" is pretty vague, and if we want links to related fandoms, it would help to call the field relatedfandoms
- For external links, I'd recommend the Wikipedia page instead of a company page or official film site. I don't think we should be encouraging a lot of links to non-fannish commercial sources unless they have information about the fandom. The goal is not to promote the film, but describe its fandom.
- I would rename this template to Template:LiveActionFilmFandom. Otherwise, it could get used for any page about a film, regardless of whether or not it's a fandom.
- I think more guidance should be added about when to use this template and what the fandom page should actually be about. In particular, I think it should be explicitly stated that you can use this template for film series as well as one-offs (example: Back to the Future), and that you shouldn't use it on pages about films that are not their own fandoms. This template seems very canon-oriented (the production companies especially seem extraneous), which could lead new editors astray into adding a lot of canon detail that isn't wanted and just generally missing the point of Fanlore, which is to document fan activity rather than canon trivia. I've seen a lot of "fandom" pages added for individual films that seem a bit questionable. In some cases, there isn't a fandom for the film, and someone just created a page for the film because they liked it. In other cases, the fandom encompasses more than just a single film, so information on the film page would either duplicate what's on the general fandom page or be a short summary of the film itself plus fan reaction/discussion. There's already a template for individual films/books/etc. that aren't their own fandoms: Template:ProfessionalWorks. An example of its use is Star Trek: The Motion Picture, a film that was discussed a lot in zines so we needed a page devoted to it, but wasn't a separate fandom. --aethel (talk) 18:52, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- A lot of this template is copied over from Template:VideoGame, which has similar things going on. I'm fine most of these changes, but I'd like some kind of standardization for fandom templates written in a reference page for future template creation going forward. - Regarding production companies: in my opinion it's in a similar vein to listing publishers and developers for video games, so I'm not quite sure if we should cut it.
- Regarding images: I've received conflicting information on whether or not to use official images in boxes. Video game pages often use official logos. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 21:30, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
