Template talk:FandombyText

I just updated The_Dresden_Files page with categories, and when I saved, noticed that the "breadcrumb" trail I put in was out of order -- I think because the template automatically includes a hidden "Fandom by Source Text" category that takes precedence over anything added to the edit page. So that's now coming ahead of "Fan Communities" instead of following it, the way I wrote them. --Arduinna 18:56, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Categories

The description here says " Please manually add the appropriate format subcategory (Anime, Books & Literature, Television, Film, etc.), plus the main Fandoms by Source Text category if the fandom doesn't match any subcategory," but on Help:Fandoms#What_categories_should_I_use.3F it says to generally add Category: Fandoms by Source Text in addition to a category by canon type. One of the two (probably the one here?) should be corrected. --Tiyire (talk) 12:47, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

More optimal link to the WhatLinksHere page

Wouldn't it be better to do the "Click here for related articles on Fanlore." button as an internal link instead of an external link (which leads back to this wiki)?

You would put

Click here for related articles on Fanlore.

instead of the current

[ Click here for related articles on Fanlore.]

Changing how categories work with this template

I have a proposal for this template. Over with the Template:LiveActionFilm template, I implemented a parameter called 'fandom category'. This argument checks against a if-else statement; if a category is specified in the parameter, the page is categorized with the given input. Otherwise, the page is automatically sorted into Category:Fandoms by Source Text.

{{ #if: {} ||}}

For example, The Thing (1982) has 'The Thing' assigned to it's fandom category, sorting it into Category:The Thing. Meanwhile, Killer Klowns from Outer Space does not have a fandom category value, so it automatically goes into Fandoms by Source Text.

Since the Fandoms by Source Text category is meant to be a diffusal category, this would make swapping out categories a tad bit easier. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 17:47, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
