Talk:The Holmesian Federation
Someone catalogued their copies of the zine on librarything, including the covers! According to that user, the first issue was published in 1978. There are a few more covers at Sherlock Peoria, and a date range of 1978-1991 (eight issues)--æthel 15:45, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
- Niiiice! :-) Mrs. Potato Head 15:57, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Cover of issue #1
Is the cover of issue #1 part of an image from the Interphase calendar? Looks like the artist is Gayle F. (What's worse? Recognizing an artist's style everywhere without even trying, remembering where exactly one has seen an image before, or adding images to the talk page! *sigh*) --Doro 18:36, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
- Doro, I think all three of those things are wonderfully... well, wonderful.:-) I'll make note of the artist on the cover. Mrs. Potato Head 18:53, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
The Yarbro affair
I've added a concise account of the Yarbro kerfuffle (and somewhat expanded the contents descriptions. (I have a complete run of the zine, including the ill-fated #8, as well as copies of the SFWA Bulletin issues referenced.) --djonn 02:47, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
- Fabulous! The information, the cover, all those juicy references... Mrs. Potato Head

Contributors (Oops!)
Edited to redact identification of many contributors per Fanlore policies, as described and linked in the edit (oops, and mea culpa!). I'd initially put that paragraph in having overlooked the "pre-1995" policy entirely -- and having been thinking more in terms of the conventions of Holmesian pastiche than of fanfiction, as the tradition of privacy isn't generally encountered on the Holmesian side of the fence. Of the five full names now remaining in the article as I write this, one (Batory) has republished in the real-world small press, two (Berman & Landon) already have Fanlore articles under their full names, and one (Rhea) was substantively outed in the course of the Yarbro dispute. As for the last, that individual is personally known to me (nudge, wink) and has long since acknowledged the work in public.
There is, however, an additional wrinkle which may be worth considering here: namely, Holmes fandom/scholarship being what it is, at least some if not all of the Holmesian Federation issues have been indexed by those who compile lists of every Holmes pastiche ever published, however bizarre. The compilers of those indices don't typically differentiate between what we'd call fannish publications and small-press publications -- and some of those indices are available online. In effect, what this may mean (I emphasize "may" here) is that most HF authors have long since been effectively "outed", at least in the world of Sherlock Holmes "scholarship". However, pending further discussion on this point, the published policy pretty clearly requires redacting most contributors' names. --djonn 05:03, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Information about professional publication
I switched two sections because the fannish information is more important than the professional publication. Also, the reprint information (including link) already was on the page and is now there twice in two different sections. --Doro 20:12, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Cover Gallery
The gallery looks bad the way it is right now because the images are too small to be displayed at such a huge size. That's why I made two galleries to begin with, one for the bigger images and one for the smaller ones. MPH, did you change it because you plan to upload bigger versions of the images? --Doro 21:49, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
- Oh dear, I didn't know that. I just saw duplication with some of them and thought I would clean it up. Sadly, I don't have access to these zines. I'll switch them back to how you had them. --Mrs. Potato Head 21:58, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
