Talk:Subtext

Guys, is there really anything specifically fannish to say about this, other than perhaps a Subtext=Buttsex joke? --Betty 04:30, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, there's the whole question of what constitutes slashy subtext, and whether a pairing has to have subtext for people to slash it. I think it's relevant to discussions of "why slash." And if nothing else, relevant to note that what people usually mean by "subtext" in fannish discussions is subtext about relationships or sexual orientation.--Penknife 10:54, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
It's not only about slash. I remember some Harmonians argued that the subtext favoured their interpretation of canon. But I agree that the relationships and sexual orientation are most important, and not whether Character X had a horrible childhood because of a certain behaviour in canon (Though this interpretation of subtext might lead to fanon interpretations of characters) -- Rodo 12:13, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

The lede needs some major work

It's confusing, way too talky, and doesn't do the job. --MPH 21:24, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

I'm working on revamping this page

I plan to make it get to the point in a clearer way, replace a lot of the long thinky academic/non-fannish information, reorganize the headers, find a lot more fan quotes, and hopefully find an fan drawn iceberg illo. --MPH 15:32, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
