Talk:Squibs in Fanworks
I have archived all the Tumblr links; will add them to the article later. --Bikedancelaugheat (talk) 01:03, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
General page for Squib?
Is there a particular reason we have a page focusing entirely on squibs in fanworks but no page for "squib"? I was going to add some canon info to this page but realised that it wouldn't really fit with the page topic. But we don't have a page that explores squibs in general, because that page currently redirects to Blood Status.
Would anyone object to making Squib into its own page and moving the information from this page there as fandom and fanworks info? Otherwise we don't really have anywhere to put canon information - and I'm not sure if we need a whole page just for fanworks? It can still contain all the detail that this page does, but be more general in its scope. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 22:28, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- I actually feel this is a good idea and I was thinking something similar when I added some images to the page yesterday. I feel turning this into a more general page with a section for fanworks would be fine. There are currently four pages linking to this one (a redirect and FanloreProject:Tumblr archiving amongst them), so it wouldn't be too much work.
- I would still keep a trope page though- perhaps name it Squibs (trope)? I looked up the tag on AO3 and found 217 works. Sometimes an established character is the squib, but there are also 41 fics tagged Original Female Character(s) and 39 tagged Original Characters (some of them written in the first person). So I guess it's safe to say that 'squibs trying to hide their lack of magic' or 'squibs suffering for their lack of magic' is a plot devices some fans are interested in. - I feel like it would be fine to just retitle this page "Squib" and expand it. Fanworks with different takes on squibs often reflect meta and discussion about squibs in canon. I think the concept and the depiction in fanworks aren't separate. I also don't thinking disambiguating with "(trope)" is necessary because the word isn't used much in a non-HP context. —caes (talk) 05:43, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
