Talk:Sentinel and Guide AU Trope in Stargate Atlantis
This page is a "mirror" of an entire journal entry.
Fanlore is a place to document about fanworks and fan history, not a place to archive the entire fanwork itself. I propose deleting this page and linking this journal entry to relevant pages on Fanlore, such as Sentinel AU and Sentinel and Guides are Known.
Or, if there are enough fan comments and discussion about this specific journal entry, to summarize the post, link to it, and add some of those fan comments.

Sorry about that - I'm new to adding pages to Fanlore and was unclear about some of the "what Fanlore is not" details. The reason I re-created an existing list on Dreamwidth here is that it's likely to be an evolving list, with more works added across time, and I wanted others to be able to edit them in. I won't always be around to do so, at the Dreamwidth end.
But I understand if it's better just to have a link to the Dreamwidth entry under relevant Fanlore pages like Sentinel AU and Sentinels and Guides are Known. Can I suggest that a link is also added to the Fanlore page for McKay/Sheppard, though, as the list relates specifically to that pairing. It could go under the AU section of that page, as Sentinel-Guide stories are by default AUs. I'd be happy to add that in, if it's agreed that links elsewhere in Fanlore are better than keeping the page itself. Mific (talk) 19:41, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- I think it's great you want other people to add onto the list, but they could do so in the comments of the original entry so it seems unnecessary to duplicate the content here, as MPH has indicated. If you wanted to convert this to a page more suitable for Fanlore, you could add more about the specifics of McShep Sentinel and Guide AUs, similar to Canon Divergence AU (The Hobbit)? Especially if there's tropes specific to McShep Sentinel and Guide AUs, which I would assume there are since there's probably a healthy does of "oh it's an ancients thing" and whatnot. Then we could rename the page to something like "McShep Sentinel and Guide AUs." - 22:18, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, I can add some stuff about this trope as it's seen in this fandom and pairing. I'll also remove the big list and just put a link to the Dreamwidth list. Mific (talk) 22:30, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Renaming the page and expanding on the trope as it is used and portrayed in McShep Sentinel and Guide AUs is a good idea. It could have sections on common themes, portrayals unique to the fandom, "firsts" in the genre, and a lot of other really interesting sections.
- But one thing that the page could not do is be an an ongoing project to be a complete list of all McShep Sentinel and Guide AUs. Fanlore isn't the place for exhaustive lists. However, having a link to that neat project on Dreamwidth with a short description would be entirely appropriate.
- Not for regular users! In the future if you need a page renamed, throw Template:AttentionGardeners on the talk page and raise the question there and a Gardener will come along to do it. In this case, MPH and I are both already here and either of us can rename it. - flyingthesky (talk) 00:41, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Edits
I fixed the template, added some headers and wikilinks, moved the fic examples lower on the page, gave micfic's list link a shout out, and added a spot for any fanart examples. As always, feel very free to clarify, add more... --MPH (talk) 15:30, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
