Talk:Rodney McKay
What do you guys think of fanfiction subheads? Post-Trinity and Grovelfic? Genderswap? AUs? Academic stories? That way we leave it open for other tropes?--Speranza 21:31, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- Now that there's starting to be a bunch of material here, yeah, I think subheads would be awesome. Kass 21:33, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
which bits of canon to keep?
The canon section is way too long. I recognize some of the details from fanworks, but I haven't read or looked at SGA fanworks in years so I don't recognize these:
- When he was six years old, his father read Moby Dick to him, resulting in reoccurring nightmares of being eaten by a whale
- McKay has claimed to have won an award for his acting skills and at some point spent time as a member of the Fort McMurray Eager Beavers until being asked to leave
- Small children are inevitably attracted to him, despite his befuddlement and disdain for their sticky fingers and faces.
Maybe all of it is relevant to fandom, but the way it's organized now makes it hard for me to tell. I recommend moving as many of the details as possible to the McKay in fanfiction section and describing how trends/tropes developed from each canon detail, linking to example fanworks. Or, if some of the canon information is a frequent topic in meta discussions, start a Meta section.--æþel (talk) 04:48, 14 December 2012 (UTC). P.S. Page history tells me the excess canon has been on the page since 2008, but I guess I only just noticed it now....--æþel (talk) 04:57, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
