(this talk was originally located at Talk:Pseudocide and transferred after a consensus was reached to make Pseuicide the primary term and Pseudocide the redirect.)--lian 22:56, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

I've always seen this spelled as 'pseuicide'?--Mary Crawford 16:51, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

I've heard both. Pseudocide is the correct real-world way (it has 16k vs pseuicide's 700), but pseuicide seems to be an acceptable spelling/version in fandom. --Etothepii 17:20, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
I would consider Pseuicide to be much more common in fandom, though! I had never heard of Pseudocide. Is that just the company I keep? --Betty 18:58, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
No, I had that thought too, but "pseudocide" is more common in Google hits and is listed in Wikipedia and UrbanDictionary. (I still think our way is better.)--Nestra 19:01, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Until today, I'd never heard "pseudocide". My impression is definitely that pseuicide is the more common fannish version. --Dora 19:02, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Oddly I had the reverse experience I can't recall ever seeing "pseuicide" before, though I may have overlooked instances and read it as pseudocide which was the term I'm familiar with. FWIW I have googled the terms in combination with "wank" and with "fandom" to gauge the more fannish proportions in usage, and together with "fandom" it's 1120 for pseudocide to 297 with pseuicide however with "wank" it's 69 for pseudocide and 84 for pseuicide. --Ratcreature 20:28, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
I agree. Shouldn't the fannishly common term take precedence here, and Pseudocide be the redirect? --lian 19:42, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm certainly of that opinion, having heard pseuicide far more. Plus, it's a clearer word (as pseudocide could refer to a fake of any kind of -cide), IMO. --ainsley 20:34, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes! Pseuicide is a pun on suicide, so it's more meaningful. (Well, to me.) --Dora 20:46, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Works for me if we want to move the definition to "pseuicide" and then redirect from here. If no one else does it, I can probably get to it later tonight. --User:Apple_pi 16:15, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Done! :) --lian 22:56, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Totally new question. I... if you turned off the pilot light before sticking your head in the oven, would you not, in fact, be killing yourself? Leaving the pilot light on would just allow you to roast your head slowly, whereas turning the pilot light off would let the gas accumulate unburned in a small space until you asphyxiated. Right? Can someone explain why a completely backwards example is being used to explain "safety measures" in a suicide threat, or is there an objection to my changing that part? -- Vee

(You know, I have no idea. But I'm not a native speaker and don't muse a gas oven, so I don't even know what a pilot light is. Also, I have to admit the example makes me slightly uncomfortable; so, uhm, if it doesn't make sense either maybe take it out?) --lian 22:45, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Done! And added some details/cites. --Vee
Neat :) I only changed 'outside references' to 'references,' because all ref. are external -- otherwise it'd be a wikilink. --lian 23:57, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
