Talk:Paul Gross Arms
Hey, I didn't mean to say Paul Gross arms is the only term for \o/. I'm sure it's not! Would it be better to have Paul Gross arms redirect to \o/ ? Lim 13:09, 4 October 2008 (UTC)lim
- I knew the emoticon before I ever heard the term "Paul Gross arms", I just thought of it was clled "yay!" emoticon or something like that, so I think it makes more sense to have the emoticon itself be the central article.--RatCreature 13:19, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think there's need for one to be a "central" article with the other redirecting, in that case. There are things to say - that Lim wrote - about the fact that the emoticon has sometimes the name paul gross arms - which means the pages should be linked but don't have to be 'one redirects to the other'. I edited the pages accordingly.--anatsuno 14:30, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Revisiting the redirect issue: I recall seeing a discussion elsewhere that emoticons should not get pages on Fanlore since they represent general Internet lingo, not fandom-specific inventions. Since the only specifically fannish use of \o/ (that I'm aware of) is as a shorthand for Paul Gross Arms, I'd suggest merging these articles and simply making a note that \o/ has a wider, non-fannish use. On the other hand, if \o/ has some other fannish meaning, then that article needs some TLC.--Aethel 00:10, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. I think having \o/ redirect here would be best, with a note that it's a generic emoticon, but in fandom is often referred to as Paul Gross Arms. --Kyuuketsukirui 05:24, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- We need the picture uploaded, I think. Anyone have it? *searches*--Speranza 17:39, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
This line here It was noted in French Revolution RPF/Historical RPF that the practice of victory arms is much, much older. seems to say that a) the article was claiming due South fandom invented the victory arms and that b) Historical RPF fandom has an older claim to that. However, the article just says that due South fandom invented the name "Paul Gross Arms" and it acknowleges that the practice of victory arms is a general non-fannish thing, so the line about RPF fandom is confusing and it repeats something that is already said in the article. If no one disagrees, I'm going to remove it. --Doro 20:40, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
