Thanks for creating this page! I re-arranged the beginning to bring the focus to the trope rather than the real-world events, since it is a trope page, and I wonder if the "history" section might need to be summarized further still -- it obviously took a lot of time and effort to write it up so I'm sorry to suggest it, but as far as I understand, these "history" sections should really focus on the history of the trope rather than on actual historical details of the events themselves, which is already covered on other sites like Wikipedia etc? --Greedy dancer (talk) 15:03, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Yes, unfortunately I think the entire history section needs to be removed because it's not related to fandom. Potentially a few real-world details about bride buying might be relevant to a page about a specific fanwork that uses those details, but the only way any of those details would fit here is if there is or was a meta discussion in fandom about how well or badly fanfic about mail-order brides portrays the phenomenon. And even then, the real-world details would be slipped into a "Fan Discussion" section rather than being the focus of the section.
