Are we sure it was Bodie? In the little Pros reading I did, it was always Doyle who was an elf. Because of the ears, you see.--Nestra 16:12, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Also, my impression is that it kind of fit into the whole thing where one partner had to be the 'slender, willowy' one. That one was always the elf. --Betty 16:17, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- No, I'm not sure it was Bodie. It's one of those things where I read about a reference to a story I didn't read in a fandom that's not mine. P.S. Are inappropriate elves actually different from regular elven AUs? Maybe this page should get moved to elf? --zvi 17:42, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- I wrote a Bodie-is-an-elf story, but it wasn't early on (it was 1998) and I definitely wouldn't call it famous; the only thing it matches is the "reveals his identity to his partner" thing. I wrote it specifically because the standard in Pros is for Ray to be an elf (usually a fantasy elf in a fantasy setting, iirc). The only truly famous elf story I can think of in Pros is The Hunting (written in 1986-1987, according to the author notes), which is a full-blown fantasy elf AU, which I think is a lot different from bringing elves randomly into the "real" world of the source.
- FWIW, the only time I've seen the specific phrase "inappropriate elf" used is in relation to Speranza's challenge. --Arduinna 17:14, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- That's correct. There was a history of elf stories, and then parodies of elf stories. My challenge came out of the idea of--wow, aren't there some fandoms where this would just be a terrible idea? This leaves ambiguous the idea of whether or not it was a terrible idea in, say, The Professionals. *g* I'll go add some of this.--Speranza 18:23, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Redirected the whole mess to the challenge, and started Elf AU as an expression of the more serious Elf fantasy stories (and also the ironic ones).
