Talk:House, M.D.
Bellaboo While linking all the new communities, I decided to remove house_pens (because IIRC, it's been merged with housefic_meta) and houseepisodes (because I thought they'd rather prefer to fly under the radar-- and it's not very informative, because the community itself keeps its rules/information under flock, which means it's not open to the public). Those are just my opinions, however, and if someone feels like they deserve to be linked, go ahead and change it back to how it was. It'd also be great if someone could fill in descriptions of the other communities, since I don't know what they're all for. I explained the ones that I could.
I'm also thinking it might be good to get the house lj communities list its own page, since it's quite long and is cluttering the rest of the House, M.D. page. In fact, I think many of the communities-- House/Wilson, Housefic_meta, House_bigbang-- deserve their own pages on fanlore. I'll try to start putting them up next week, when I have more time, but if someone gets to it first, that's good too.
zulu Why is there a section on pairings involving Steve McQueen? I don't believe there is any section of fandom that is devoted to Steve in terms of his romantic relationships with other characters. Unless someone can offer a citation, perhaps this part of the article should be removed.
- I went ahead and removed the section on the lack of pairings with Steve McQueen, since I don't know either of section in fandom that ships him. If someone does find fanworks/references on pairings with him, though, we can put that section back in.Bellaboo
Under common clichés, is "major characters bonding over kittens" really a recurring theme in fic? I honestly can't remember any fic that does that-- though I'm happy to be proven wrong, if a few examples are brought up.
And I'm not sure if mispelling Stacy's name is a cliché-- it happens a lot, yes, but that's more of a mistake than a cliché, right? --Bellaboo 11:06, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Why don't the Creators show up in the box to the right? When you go to edit it, they're there, but they don't show up when viewing the page. --DeeLaundry 16:26, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Aha -- someone had made "creator" plural in the infobox, but it needs to be singular for the template to work. I fixed it, so the names are showing up now. --Arduinna 16:51, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- I also went in and took out the "writers" section, which only listed Doris Egan; writers aren't part of the template, so the line wasn't appearing on the page anyway. I didn't add Doris's name to the main page because looking at IMDB, she's only written 9 episodes (out of nearly 100), and there are a dozen writers with 5-12 eps under their belts listed. So she didn't seem to be that influential as a writer, although she's been a co-exec producer for 74 eps. --Arduinna 17:30, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Taking the "writers" section out is fine. Just to let you know, however, Doris Egan is a very influential writer on the show, having written many key backstory episodes, including "Son of a Coma Guy" and "Birthmarks." --DeeLaundry 18:17, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that Doris Egan is important to the fandom, so I went and mentioned her in the introduction section, along with David Shore. Does anyone know the livejournal link to the person who roleplays as David Shore, going on communities and pretending to be him? I wanted to include the link but I forgot who it was!--Bellaboo 18:43, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- I figured if I was wrong someone would correct me! <g> She gets mentioned often enough that I knew she definitely mattered, it just wasn't clear exactly how from the barebones IMDB info so I didn't know where/how to put her on the page itself. Maybe those episodes and why they're important could go on her page, as a "notable episodes" section or something? --Arduinna 18:52, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- I took your suggestions and mentioned some of the episodes she's written in her page, and a bit of an explanation as to why they're deemed so highly. It's not a complete explanation, but hopefully others can build on it. :)--Bellaboo 19:19, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Race and this fandom
Has someone written something about the relative scarcity of Foreman-centric fic as a sign of internalized racism within the fandom? I feel like I've read posts to that effect, and I'd love to link to them, but I can't seem to dig anything up. Kass 16:31, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ignazwisdom (on lj) wrote about why Foreman is ignored in fandom. That's the only one I can remember addressing the topic directly. Race discussions tend to generally go ignored/undone in House fandom, as far as I've seen.--Bellaboo 17:16, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
