Talk:Five Nights at Freddy's (video game series)
Much of the fanon section was taken directly from TV Tropes FNaF page and should be replaced or expanded. The rest of the page is missing a lot of details about fic, fanart, and fan games, along with the fandom community itself and the reactions to the easter eggs Cawthon hides in the games. Trying to Expand
I'm not sure how deep I'll be able to get into it, but for now I'm trying to help expand on the canon then eventually the fanon. There are so many of these games some canon explanation may be needed. If anyone was like me and thought the main games had a deeper plot, they might just be surprised to find out they were not actually that deep, haha. I'll try and keep each game's canon down to one paragraph but because this page currently covers every game, instead of them being separate pages, it might look bulky by the time they're all penciled in. If anyone ever sees ways to simplify canon without cutting down too much on important plot points, go ahead. Just wanted to leave a note! Patchlamb (talk) 21:15, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
- A couple of paragraphs of canon may be needed to explain video games. We tend to go very light on canon for large fandoms, but for niche fandoms (and all of video games are niche fandoms here--just meaning "if you're not into the category, you may not know these exist," unlike Harry Potter where everyone knows what it is, even if they haven't seen the movies), we may need to indicate both game type ("resource-management horror game with jump scares," or whatever is appropriate) and the actual storyline canon. I would like to include enough canon that someone who's never heard of it could read the page and know both what it is and how the fandom community deals with it. - Elf (talk) 03:02, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
As I go through these games I'm starting to think they might need their own pages. Even keeping each game to one paragraph it makes the canon section quite long, and I'm worried their fandoms may be the same way. It might be worth keeping this page as an overall view of the game's general plot line, theories, spin offs, etc, and then making seperate pages for pieces of the franchise to dig deeper into characters, tropes, and things like less popular theories that came out of certain games. For example FNaF 1-4 seems like a pretty different fandom space than what I've seen since Security Breach came out. Any thoughts on that? Patchlamb (talk) 15:23, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- Each game having its own page sounds reasonable. There was a lot of activity with each release, and a lot of theories and fanworks based on each specific game. There should be an overall page for the whole franchise; check how we have a main Star Trek page and one for each movie. Game series may wind up being treated the same way. Some game series/sequels are basically "...and then three years later, they released the rest of it," but a lot of them have enough fannish activity to want a full page for each game. - Elf (talk) 03:02, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
- I'm going to re-name this page to "Five Nights at Freddy's (video game series)" since the first game is just "Five Nights at Freddy's," and go ahead and start making the games their own pages. I don't know if the spin-offs need their own pages or not though, I don't think they'd have enough content. For now I'll leave spin-offs mainly covered on the video game series page here.
