Talk:Fan Song
The present rewrite was sparked by the suggestion in the prior text that "filk" has faded, which seems to me both unnecessarily judgmental and potentially inaccurate (I am personally aware of multiple Zoom filk circles that have been going on regularly throughout the pandemic); it seems to me that what's happened is that the fan-music umbrella has multiplied. In that light, I wrote this text with the strong suggestion that the page should be renamed "fan music", of which "fan song" is a subtype, rather than the opposite relationship implied by the existing nomenclature. Obviously much more can be done with examples, but the recasting seems to me a decent start. (Ideally, in the medium to long term, all of the category sections will acquire enough detail to warrant their own pages.) --djonn (talk) 10:45, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
- I’m here sort of by happenstance looking at Recent Changes, but I agree that usage of the word filk has not faded - I still see it both in fiction on AO3 and in circles I used to keep up with as a former folk dancer! Just a general agreement that re-organization to expand beyond, rather than exclude, filk seems like a wise direction. Joanna R (talk) 03:08, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
