Talk:Convention Business Meeting

Business Meeting seems like a pretty standard term and not fannish at all? This page looks more like it's meant to document a fandom occurrence.--aethel (talk) 22:04, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

I believe it was specifically a UK fannish occurrence, always slated at the same time at the con, and conducted for the same reason. Perhaps the page needs a different title, like UK Convention Business Meeting? --MPH (talk) 22:32, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
A lot of SF conventions have business meetings, not just British ones. Tying this entry to a single convention, genre or country is just silly. --Marcus Rowland (talk) 02:42, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I apologize for my mistake on its definition. What would you suggest doing to de-sillify the page? Rename it? Change the wording to be more complete and accurate? Delete it entirely? --MPH (talk) 02:50, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Unless there was something especially noteworthy about this meeting I'd suggest changing it to something more generic with the pages posted as an example of the sort of things that might be discussed at a convention business meeting. If you want to see a more recent example here's the minutes for the last World Science Fiction Convention - http://www.wsfs.org/bm/minutes-2014.pdf - but since it's 83 pages long and as dull as watching paint dry it's probably of limited interest! --Marcus Rowland (talk) 12:40, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
What I forgot to say is that these meetings are most often seen at conventions run by fans, not those run commercially. Since fan-run cons depend on their members for e.g. technical support, gophering etc. the con has to be run with some degree of transparency, whereas the owners of commercial convention can make arbitrary decisions with little or no transparency. --Marcus Rowland (talk) 18:16, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I've added some more about what they do etc., maybe someone who is more involved in that side of con-running will add more eventually --Marcus Rowland (talk) 21:06, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I've asked a friend who is seriously into convention politics etc. to take a look and let me know if anything is wildly wrong, but it may take a few days. Hopefully there's enough there now to cover the topic. --Marcus Rowland (talk) 07:14, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
You have done very nice work here; I'm impressed! --MPH (talk) 12:19, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
I got lucky - my friend got back to me very quickly, all of the Worldcon stuff comes from him. The rest of it comes from spending way too much time at SF cons etc. over the years... --Marcus Rowland (talk) 17:14, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
