Talk:Cave Story
What is a "plot coupon"? If it's not a typo, pls. define it for people like me...--Sherrold 19:43, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- I didn't know, either, but it turns out it's a type of plot device -- something or someone that a character picks up along the way to drive the story. I took it out to clarify/simplify the whole sentence, since the second mention of "plot device" seemed to cover things on its own. --Arduinna 19:55, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- I've seen Neil Gaiman use the term to talk about bad fantasy stories of the questing kind: you have a bunch of plot coupons, and all the characters have to do is collect all of them (the Sword of this, the Cup of that) to get to the end.--Mary Crawford 20:13, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I've seen it wikilinked in another article, but I think it's a more SFnal term. --Betty 22:48, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Does anyone know of some landmark cave stories? I seem to remember there's a Janeway/Chakotay cave story that might be worth mentioning, just as an example of how the cave story has managed to travel across fandoms. --Betty 22:48, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- I think Lezlie Fish's Shelter might have been the first one. --rache 22:50, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- Right, I've added it, then. Oooh, and it's on the Foresmutters project! *adds link* --Betty 23:02, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
