Talk:Byronic Hero
This page doesn't seem particularly fannish as currently written. Are there Byronic heroes in fanfiction? Would a list of popular characters who are classified as Byronic heroes be on topic for Fanlore? Have fans written meta about which of their blorbos are Byronic?--aethel (talk) 00:22, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- This week's Featured Article is arguably a recent (relative to Lord Byron) example of this trope. When I was in Harry Potter fandom in the mid-2000s, the whole "dark, brooding, tragic past" archetype was a large part of the appeal that Snape held for certain fans. There were metas that sought to position Snape within a tradition of literary anti-heroes like Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights. I believe the cultural needle has shifted away from the Byronic archetype having wide appeal in fannish spaces (especially for younger generations). But I think this article could still have value in terms of documenting a historical trend in fan culture. Snape seems to come up a lot in academic papers about the Byronic hero/anti-hero archetype. Seems like there's a lot of meat for anyone interested in expanding this article. Night Rain (talk) 01:21, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
