Talk:Automated Archive
Hopefully someone who knows something about it can add something about the history of automated archive software. I am clueless.--Penknife 00:26, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- AA isn't the generic name for an archive that is automated, it's the name of a specific software for running them. --Betty 02:00, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- What, then, would you call archives that refer to themselves as automated archives? And what about eFiction, which calls itself "a software program that enables users to run automated original or fanfiction archives"? If this article is only going to be about a specific software program, I think this needs disambiguation.--Penknife 10:54, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree. I think it's more often used in the wider sense of "an archive that is automated" than in the sense of "this one specific type of automated archive". --Kyuuketsukirui 11:55, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- I think either the content on this page should be moved to Automated Archive (Software), with a disambiguation link on the Automated Archive page, or we should cover both the software and the more general type of archive here.--Penknife 13:47, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- It makes sense to me to have them on the same page, with a description of what the phrase means, and then a section saying that Astolat used the phrase as a name for her software. If we have separate pages, I definitely don't think it needs a whole disambig page, because there's only going to be two terms. "If you're looking for..." at the top of each page would do. --Kyuuketsukirui 23:06, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
So...I see people have run with this page for the specific software, but we never did reach a consensus about what to do here. Should there be two separate pages, one for the general concept of an automated archive, and one for this specific software? If so, what page names should be used? I would think Automated Archive = general concept, and Automated Archive (Software) = the specific software. They could each have disambig lines at the top directing people to the other page. (A third separate disambig page seems like overkill, since it's unlikely there will ever be a need for more than two pages.
The other option would be to have this be a page about automated archives in general, with the specific software being a subsection of the page. That makes the most sense to me. --Kyuuketsukirui 10:49, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- If we merge, I think the eFiction article should be merged as subsection also, because it doesn't make sense to have a seperate one for one software but not for another.--Ratcreature 11:12, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- I vote for separate pages for each software (the AOOO software would be another one) and one page for the general concept. The software pages could be subpages of the general concept page. --Doro 13:57, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- I concur. --lian 19:57, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
