Talk:Art Meme
Examples
I think there are too many examples listed on this page. Someone looking to better understand art memes probably won't want to click through this long list, but would be better served by having only a few representative examples of different types of art memes. It also seems like many of the current examples have nothing to do with fandom? --sparc 00:59, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, it does sorta seem like the page has become a long archive of image links instead of just a regular glossary page with a few notable examples. It could probably also be a bit better if the types of art memes got more of a written explanation as well, like "OC memes" is mentioned but no where does it describe what an "OC meme" actually is compared to all the other types of memes listed. Newer art memes
I've always regarded the art memes that dominated DeviantArt in mid-2000s as the visual equivalent of the text-based surveys and quizzes that circulated during the same time. They generally took the form of a long template featuring several prompts/questions with blank spaces for respondent artists to fill with drawings or doodles. I see this as distinct from the later emergence of art memes involving the creation of original pieces based on a reference image or common set of visual criteria. For example, Twelfth Night Kiss, Girls Doing Make-up, and Tall Woman Lifting Short Woman. Should these newer art memes be covered in this article? Night Rain (talk) 18:45, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- So it seems this type of art meme is called a "redraw." Night Rain (talk) 04:39, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
